It can generally go without saying that people want to keep their homes looking good throughout the whole year. Home environments have many different parts to them, so there are many different ways that one can go about cleaning up their house to ensure that it looks good. One thing that people may not realise is that their carpets can make a considerable difference in the overall appearance of a room, and subsequently, the whole house.

One of the best ways that you can get your carpet cleaner is to start with having a professional cleaning session. The professional carpet cleaners have the equipment to get even the most notorious stains out as well as ways of restoring colour to a carpet that may have faded over time or from home treatments for carpet stains. With your carpet looking like-new once again, you will want to do what you can to keep the carpet clean for as long as possible, especially if you need to keep it looking good before the next client rents out the apartment or house. Thankfully, there are quite a few ways you can keep your carpet as clean as possible.

Minimising Dirt in the Room

As one might be able to imagine when looking at how to keep carpets clean, one of the best ways to do so is going to be to minimise the amount of dirt that can be tracked onto the carpet. When there is less chance of dirt being tracked onto the carpet, then cleaning won’t have to be done as often. There are a few separate ways you can reduce the chances dirt being tracked onto your carpets.

You can consider putting some high-quality doormats in front of every entrance to a carpeted room, or just the entrances to the house. Having a doormat will make one more inclined to wipe their shoes clean when entering the house or room, and the higher quality doormats will be better at getting rid of stubborn dirt stuck in the grooves of your soles. Likewise, you can also consider getting in the habit of taking your shoes off inside the house. When you aren’t bringing dirt-caked shoes anywhere near the carpet, you can drastically reduce the amount of dirt that finds its way onto the carpet.

You can take this habit in a couple directions, with some people having specific house shoes that can be worn on the carpeted floors if you don’t want to track oil and dirt onto the carpet either. You could also opt to simply wear socks instead of specific house shoes, especially if you prefer a more casual and comfortable atmosphere. These are just a couple of the ways that you can minimise the chances that dirt will ever meet your carpet, keeping its like-new appearance there for quite a bit longer.

Keeping the Carpet Clean Yourself

Another part of keeping your carpet clean is to practice good carpet cleaning behaviours and habits. These include getting in the habit of vacuuming twice a week, cleaning up stains the moment that they happen or as soon as you notice that there is one, and making sure that the vacuum you bought is a good one. The way that carpets are designed, the fibres of the carpet can trap dirt and grime much more easily than most kinds of flooring, meaning that you are going to need an effective vacuum to untrap that grime and remove it from the carpeting, and you will need to do this often as you might be surprised about how quickly grime can build up between the fibres.

The way you vacuum also makes a major difference in how clean the carpet gets. Not only should you be vacuuming twice a week (more if you have pets), but you should go over the most trafficked spots of the carpet about eight to twelve times with the vacuum and in all directions so that all the possible grime can be removed. If your practices here have fallen by the wayside, you can always call in some profesisonal cleaners to get everything up to speed.
